POST4: Social media and the degree of openness of society

In mainland China, there are some limitations that forbid mainland students to use some international communication tools such as twitter and the facebook, although there are some other communication tool like renren and sina blog have almost the same fuctions to instead the facebook and twitter, but the content on the internet is quite different. People all over the world use facebook and twitter so that they have chances to meet and know what happens to the different people in different countries, which is quite open to the users. But in mainland China, 90 percent sina and renren users are chinese. People share thoughts and their lives domestically. So comparing with the users who could be able to use the twitter and the facebook, news for mainland people are relatively closed. In HongKong, there are no limitations at all, people are more unconstrained. We can use so may different social media communication tools such as google+, gmail, facebook, twitter, instagram, flickr and so on so forth to share thoughts and some photos in anywhere at anytime. I have to say that citizens in HongKong are more free than the people in mainland China, they are supposed to enjoy the freedom of speech and expression. So the social institution in HongKong is enlightened. Social media could be able to reflect the degree of openness of one society somehow.

POST3: Social media analytics makes people more rational

With the rapid economic development of this society, advertising serves as a catalyst for companies to make  products sell well. However, people are inevitable faced with such a dilemma that merchants are more likely to put more money in advertising instead of trying to improve the products’ quality. There is a question that where do consumers normally get to know the products and how can they know about the quality of these goods?
The answer is by using the social media analytics method. As we all know that comments of a product play important role, some people are used to check the comments out before they decide whether they will buy something or not. These comments are exactly social media analytics. People write down their perspectives and how they feel after using this product, so that others could be able to see the comments which could be treated as a kind of communication. Then we can use the social media analytics to find out whether this product is as good as the advertisement shows. In this situation, with the help of social media analytic people are more rational to choose if they are going to buy the product.
So that we can decrease the influence of the advertisement, that is to say, people could be able to buy the goods with the best quality. Thus, the social media analytics method is very useful.

POST2: Media tools make our life simple

With the rapid development of our society, technology serves as a catalyst for the entire world to develop and making our live simpler. However, people are inevitable faced with such a dilemma that some kind of technology could even be able to make our life sophisticated. From my perspective, I found myself more convinced by the opinion that the advanced technology provides us a better life. Such as some community applications which I mean the social media tools. The reasons are stated as follows.

Firstly, I think no one could be able to deny that individuals cannot live without the help of these state-of-art technologies such as PC and smart phones. By using internet, people are not just individuals. They contact with each other, share their thoughts and news with others, which I think is unbelievable in the past.

Secondly, by analyzing those comments of some news, maybe some political news, we have a chance to know about what citizens are thinking about so that we get a big data. This data is supposed to be used in so many different ways, for instance, political use and financial use. However, like a sword has two sides, the security of people’s daily life may be exposed to some extend. The Snowden event is a good example.

In the final analysis, it is my belief that the by using social media tools could make our life simpler rather. It would be rigid to say that the Snowden event is supposed to make us discard the social media. Only through using these marvelous social media tools do we get benefit from the data, only through paying more attention to our own security do we let these high tech serves us better.

POST1 An analysis of the social media

Before i attend this course i'm not sure about what social media exactly is,what are we able to get from the social media. In my opinion, social media may be just some kind of appications on PC or phone which are used by people to communicate with others and share their thoughts and news.
Now i think it's just too simple to define this course. Social media is not only for entertainment but also for some other official using. By anlyzing the social media we could be able to know what people are thinking about then we can get  important data. By using the data we get from the internet we konw the relationship between the customers and the sellers which is quite crucial for a company to run its business well. This data is for financial using. Also the goverment could know about what the citizens are thinking about and then make some changes to improve people's life.

All in all, it is important to analyze the social media, not just for individuals but also for the entire society.
